A Day Out at Liberty London
The other week, a friend and I from my Styling course at the London College of Style decided to go out for a catch-up and shopping dose at the iconic Liberty store by Carnaby Street.
I hadn’t been to Liberty since before the pandemic but was still blown away by its amazing architecture (although disappointed to see the outside of the building covered up due to ongoing works).
We covered every floor of the shop, taking in views from the balcony and still discovering new brands we hasn’t heard of before as well as enjoying the clash of Liberty florals all perfectly mixed together.
Needle and Thread is a frothy eveningwear brand taking up a corner on the womenswear floor that caught my eye. Like a nook of princess dreams, every delicately detailed, embroidered dress was a work of art in its own right. If you love a frill and delicate print, these dresses will call out to you too! How could you not be happy twirling in one of these at a wedding? Many dresses were maxi but for fellow petite friends, the small print won’t overpower our frame and the ruffles aren’t too large. Sizes range from 4–20 on their website and they even have a range of beautiful dresses for kids.
Rixo instantly excited both myself and my friend Rashi. The vintage inspired dresses came in an array of fun hand-printed fabrics from ditsy nightgown-inspired florals to bold eye-catching patterns. These easy-to-wear dresses are perfect for any garden party and can be dressed up or down, perfect for any age or body type. The brand also boasts a sustainable swimwear collection online and even an affordable bridal wear collection with their distinct vintage flair.
Bernadette is a lovely brand from Antwerp that called out to my love of gingham. Bold red gingham is great for a boost if you have somewhere important to go to and want to make an impression (perhaps that Tinder date you can finally go on). With feminine prints and simple flattering shapes, this brand is great for understated glamour that you can grunge down or dress up. Oh, and they make gorgeous silk pyjamas and even matching floral mugs!
