My Fall 2022 Fashion Week favourites

Hello! Fall 2022 Fashion Week has just ended and I thought I’d share my favourite collections of the season with you.

Strap yourselves in for lots of personal opinions on 5 collections out of the many this year which I especially enjoyed.

This collection was clearly inspired by Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’, a book I’ve always really enjoyed for it’s dream-like story and surreal artwork.

As a concept, this kind of cute yet punky grunge was very popular in the mid 00’s when I was a teenager and is still the foundation of my personal taste. Currently fashion is seeing a 00’s revival (hence all the low rise jeans) but this ‘emo’ style has been yet to seen.

I’m sure many of us who are still pretty alternative in style are happy to see these modern takes on girly punk style. If I’d seen this collection back in 08 my rainbow over the knee socks would have been blown off!

The mix of Edwardian influence in the necklines, lace and bows with the grungy boots and tartans is a chef’s kiss for me. Big period gowns could look frumpy but Bora cutting them to a short length makes them very wearable. I also appreciate the loose shapelessness of the gowns. Many designers have been working with corsets (don’t get me wrong I love a corset) but I do also love these swing styles.

Overall, this collection is one I’d love to wear and could imagine myself in (if I had the funds!). Beautiful and reminiscent of ruffling through the archives in Northampton where I went to university when I was of course designing a vintage-inspired collection. I’m always a sucker for frothy romantic dresses and this certainly didn’t disappoint!

Moschino

Ok let’s get this out of the way, Moschino is one of my favourite designers. I’ve always loved how Jeremy Scott has fun with fashion and for me, that’s the kind of the high fashion I love the most. Catwalks should be inspirational, slightly out of reach and almost like museum artworks. There’s no point it being that expensive and a big show if it looks ordinary in my opinion.

Jeremy always does I what look for in a collection, a very clear theme and concept which has been explored in a joyful way yet looks fantastic. There’s definitely a balance – don’t want it looking too silly and unwearable!

So, this collection is inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s film ‘A Space Odyssey’ although many people online are saying it’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and well they aren’t completely wrong. It’s certainly furniture-inspired and Jeremy has really explored the theme and gotten creative.

I love all the quirks, the cutlery used throughout as detailing, the beautiful rug drapery (he’s actually not the only designer inspired by carpet prints this season), and all the pieces he’s managed to use the curves of to make elegant dresses with.

A theme I’m noticing a lot on the runway is the 20’s. Many designers are borrowing the drama and sexiness of the decade and injecting the old school Hollywood glamor into their collections.

Lorenzo has done just that. His collection is moody and elegant with romantic shapes that highlight the female form with plenty of ruffle, just the right amount of skin showing and not showing to be sexy. Every model looks like a film star without looking costumey, certainly a modern take on vintage.

Also like many other designers, men’s tailoring has been played with and glammed up in this collection. I’ve always enjoyed the mix of traditionally ‘masculine’ oversized and boxy shapes and suiting with ‘feminine’ lingerie moments and fabrics and it is balanced well here.

Another favourite designer I look forward to every season is Giambattista Valli. Always romantic with fresh feminine looks that you can’t help but love and aspire to own.

This time, Giambattista has taken inspiration from the 60’s, a fashion era I just love so of course this collection is everything I enjoy. The textures and fabrics in this collection are sugary sweet, shiny and there’s even tapestry yet it’s not too much. There’s a ‘cool girl’ nonchalance in this collection with simple sexy 60’s shapes and emphasis on the fabric.

Whoever styled this collection has perfectly complimented these pieces with colourful tights, sky-high heels, big almost ridiculous sunglasses, wool gloves spanning all the way up the arm and bags in matching print. Fun tights have featured on most collections this season and add the perfect pop of fun to your outfits.

Chanel

Ok, I love Chanel, past and present. Coco Chanel created a brand with a very clear identity and those who’ve worked for Chanel have always kept that Chanel spirit and overall house vibe clear and present.

This year was no exception. As always though, Chanel is taken into the present and made desirable to all ages. It would be every easy to make a Chanel collection that would target an older demographic but this collection has managed to make the signature tweeds look young and chic with oversized pieces, cute little shorts and an almost grungy styling with layers of jewellery.

A love letter to tweed was very clearly woven into this collection but I also really enjoyed all the knits from jumpers and cardis to thick tights (which could have looked weird with heels but somehow didn’t).

The general vibe felt like ‘The Queen is out hunting with the corgis’ which I quite liked. Chanel an elegant brand and it’s nice to see it’s casual and cozy and crafty side. There was of course still the luxury feeling that they bring season after season but it’s always nice to see a brand doing different things. ‘What else can be done with the Chanel suit?’ clearly so much.

Phew, and that’s it for this blog post! I’ve loved watching the catwalks and saving my favourite looks from designers for years – I could talk your ear off about this year.

As much as I love high end fashion, I also love seeing how the high street takes those trends and makes it accessible for us all. And then what we all do with that in our everyday lives is another story.

If you love high end fashion like me and would love a bit of that injected into your wardrobe in an affordable and wearable way get in touch and let’s shop together.
