My Fall Winter 25 Fashion Month Trends
Fall/Winter Fashion Month has just ended so I’m sharing the trends I’ve identified so you can get excited for the end of the year or try them now!
I haven’t been sponsored to write this. Shout out to Vogue, WhoWhatWear and Fashion United for providing the catwalk pictures and some of the trend ideas!
This blog is also a Youtube video! If you’d like to see me explain these with extra pics and expressive hands, you can watch that here 🙂
Pretty Pastels

Just like the Summer 2025 runways, the Winter ones see pastels sticking around. So hold onto those sweet shades and layer them up for colder weathers.
There was plenty of baby pink which is now and staying a big shade. This soft colour lends itself to bows, ribbons and ruffles but also looks great in tailoring.
Baby blue equally is carrying on through. Perfect if you’ve got an icy skin tone and pairs well with a blue eye. Remember you can also get a light blue with a golden undertone.
Vibrant and zesty mint was also trending. You may find a coat in this colour this year. Personally, I think mint looks great red, it’s opposite shade. On the runways, a red shoe did the trick.
Butter yellow is another shade that is the height of chic now and will still be in the Fall – so hang on tight. Creamy tailoring says I mean business but have a sunny disposition.
Grey mood

If you’re a cold skin tone but not into a pastel, you might find grey more to your liking. It also works well for Autumn skin if it’s warm toned. A nice alternative to wearing black if that’s too harsh near your face.
Why so much grey? I kept asking. I felt this was a reflection of a current worldly mood feeling a bit grey from the state of affairs.
New York’s segment of fashion month was most affected. Barely any catwalk shows, more photoshoots and very understated collections. Less opulent than some of the other countries.
In the colder seasons you do want to snuggle in some understated grey knitwear. There was also lot of grey in checks and pinstripe. This tied in with preppy feeling tailoring, wool coats and matching sets.
Tall glass of wine

The past couple of seasons had a lot of hot Spring red with an introduction of a deeper maroon wine shade. This wine now taking over in trendiness.
Blood reds were in those dark tonal tailored looks and many brought a sultry sexiness with a vampy gothic feeling.
Wine is a nice red alternative if a yellow base is too warm for you. The pinkierness to this tone suits someone with a cool pink undertone. Deep reds like these will still give you that confidence boost from wearing the shade.
Animal print

Like the previous season, leopard print is still about and doing well. Phew!
These prints flowed in floaty chiffons, paired against girlier lace and florals, was in knits and stand out coats.
The black in the print will still give you that comfort whilst the warm undertone can be a nice lift. Pair these patterns against a blocky wine red for a stand out look!
Art print

Not quite a print but art and drawing-like designs were printed onto clothing. We saw different brush styles, big bold paintings, stencils. Real and cartoon prints with plenty of fun and personality.
If you don’t fancy an Erdem gown, to have a go at editing your own clothing like this. Using something cheap from a charity shop to upcycle or experiment with a piece you don’t wear. Makes for a memorable group activity!
Check please

As I said, there was a lot of grey checks. Other than those, we did also see many other variations of the classic colder season fabric on the runways.
I think this does add in to the overall preppy feeling from FW25 we saw in a schoolis uniform or even teacher-esque way. Many of us feel for the academia as soon as the leaves start changing.
And of course checks and tartans do also lend themselves to a grunge or punky vibe if that’s more your aesthetic.
Winter florals

A more unexpected fabric for the colder seasons is floral. Florals for Winter, ground breaking?
These florals still reflected the mood of the season and we saw them darker and not out of place at all.
Like the Summer, florals were chintzy and grandma-like also. Cute knits for warm femininity.
Fringing

Getting into texture, another trend that’s sticking around from Summer is fringing. Thick and chunky strips, thin and textured. Some in more Wintery textures and others glittering and tinsle-like for the Christmas parties. A fun bit of movement to add to an outfit.
Party sequins

Speaking of Christmas parties, it’s not all grey wool. Many of the collections saw a sequin and sparkle. There was a feeling of a slightly and messy real person almost like a brat Winter.
These sequins were in the classic party dress but we also saw some sparkly pieces paired with opposing. Grunging them down to make a more urban everyday unexpected outfit with a vary of texture.
Fur coats

There was a lot of fur coats and dramatic ones that you’d expect on a mafia boss, mob wife or old time movie starlet.
No quiet luxury here, those big fluffy floor length coats that can’t be cheap. Stay warm and look flush.
These were in all of the colours, so plenty of choice. The perfect way to finish off that party look. I’d recommend having more than just a black one at your disposal to add some variety.
Puffer coats

A classic coat style that we do get most Winters is the puffer. Perfect for keeping warm. A urban every day essential to those of us in colder climates.
Runways saw the puffer looking duvet-like, and who can blame a designer for helping us stay in bed chicly.
The puff was also cute-ified, cropped and taken down to the floor. Not just your classic black North Face.
We saw this puffy quilting texture on not only coats but other items too. So look forward to insulating your whole body.
Duffle coats

Keeping on coats, the duffle coat kept popping up. Duffle meaning the closures being these long rope loops where you put a toggle through to close.
Feels a little Paddington, bit retro prep school again. These coats are a little cuter and less glamor than the fur coat. Though there were fluffy duffles – the perfect trend hybrid!
As we’ve been seeing with coats, some were classic and others had been cropped or elongated. There duffle closure also slightly edited also.
Back to school prep

Alright, it’s time to get into preppiness. I’m talking tailoring, shirts and ties at the heart of it.
School uniform feeling and even teacher-like vibes. All that grey and check certainly feeds into it. But definitely a boxy modest fit too. With matching sets and styled academically.
The classic shirt and tie has been a runway mainstay for quite a while. So if you’ve bought one of these trendy accessories, you’ll be holding on to them for Winter. Pair them either classically with a full suit or find unexpected combinations.
Peplums

This bad boy is back. Who remembers the 2010s peplum vibe?
Well they are here and they are modern and feel current. Subtly flared on tops and jackets. Peplums that are layered like belts or skirts.
They will be about in the Autumn and they could flatter anyone who wants to hide a cheeky stomach under them, or even add the illusion of more curves to their sillhouette.
I would recommend pairing your peplum with a straighter bottom to avoid Christmas tree vibes.
Capes

Summer sees us in capes and Winter does also too. The same light glamorous capes swishing over our dresses to warm our shoulders at night time and thicker ones too.
Capes were laid on top of everything and built into the structure of anything. Parts of coats, jackets, dresses and tops.
Big shoulders

80’s shoulder pads were about and making dresses and blazers feel retro and powerful. Some subtle and some really going for it. If you want to take up more space, add volume to your silhouette or just vibe with the past, have a go at this.
You can pick up some retro pieces with these built in if Stella McCartney isn’t in your price range. Or simply buy a pack of loose ones to give your pieces a boost.
Slip dresses

A 90’s fave that yes I’ll talk more about in the next explaining eras video and blog I am working on.
The slip dresses strutting down the runway were simple, some lacey and quite racey. Elegant throw on dresses perfect for any occasion.
We saw them in a range of silky fabrics, with some jewellery and accessories and worn simply on their own. Plenty were under a coat and jacket also.
Personally I love layering with these and if you’re to get one, I’d take them a step further from the catwalks and play around with them more. Try tops under and knitwear over to warm them up for Winter and get more wear from them.
Skirts to the max!

So, as you saw in some of those slip dress pics above, the length of these hemlines were pretty long.
We’re looking at ankle to floor length dripping as you walk length. Skirts of differing waist lines all followed suit and we saw a maxi length that was maximum maxi.
There were skirts with volume, tight tube shapes and even fishtails. If you don’t mind occasionally tripping on hems, a skirt with drama like this is a fun and floaty choice for you to keep your legs warm in the Winter.
Skinny bottoms

Now continuing on bottoms I saw something that the Gen Z won’t love….guess who’s back? The skinny jean.
Some of this had a mid 2000’s Y2K way about it so the kids won’t have a problem with that. Plenty of low waists there. Everyone’s happy.
The skinny jeans and trousers weren’t all the classic typical type. There were straighter legs, some with a little bagginess and slight flares. This classic style felt modernised and up to date.
Having a closer fit leg like this is for those of us who like to show off our leg shape and curves. The Apple body type for example would look great with a looser torso choice and a skinner bottom half like a legging.
Unexpected layering

For me this is what I enjoy in fashion. It creates interest and it’s perfect for the colder seasons as most of these layering techniques add more pieces that will keep us warmer.
A classic we know and love is the hoodie under stuff, making it more casual. We also saw a fave of mine, the polo/turtle under a shirt. I personally do this a lot when it gets cold.
If you’re really cold you can double up your knits. The catwalks had matching layering sets like this that add texture without distracting. A knitted dress with a cardigan in the same fabric for example.
Some of the unexpectedness comes from the clash of themes. Sparkling sequins knitwear. The shirt and tie with a fleece or kimono even. Dresses over trousers, which already influencers are doing with skirts over also.
It’s all great fun ways to inject personality. Mixing themes and making unique combinations that add shape, give interesting fabric combos and take items into new contexts that spread across seasons and show that items can be versatile.
Put a ribbon on it

Bows they just won’t go. And I’m not ready for them to anyway. Sweet bow details found their way into any kind of closure possible. Adding a nice detail to finish off a simple look.
There were thin bows, contrasting and subtly there. Thick bows and ribbons making stand out finishes. On any part of the outfit you can think of. As collars and scarves. All findable now and certainly all very doable.
Brooches

Something new but old in origin is the brooch. In modern times we don’t usually see a young person rocking one of these but they are back and they are for everyone.
Brooches are a nice way to add a shot of personality to a look, giving it a finishing touch. They tie in quite well with the personalisation in fashion at the moment like the keyring trend.
Some of the brooches weren’t just the high-end metallic jewellery finishes, there’s also brooches in block colours and a badge style too. In a way, you could be attaching a key ring to any hole or loop in an outfit and that becomes a brooch in itself.
Long socks

This trend I am here for and very happy about. I have been wearing long socks since I was a teenager so young me would be happy to know they’ve made it to the runways.
The long socks we see gracing the catwalks are both over the knee, peeking out of boots and below the knee and sometimes sagging. Thick and thin. Colourful and plain.
These Winter warmers are great ways to not wear tights if you don’t want to constrict your stomach. And if you’re not warm enough, just wear some shorts under your skirts or dresses.
Long gloves

Gloves shouldn’t be a surprise for this season but the gloves we are seeing aren’t just your classic knitted for warmth kind.
Long up the arm vintage style gloves are here to make a statement. More like a piece of clothing in themselves. And not just for evening wear with that dress. We also see leathery day gloves too.
That’s everything from the past fashion month. I’ve tried to cover pieces from most of the collections many of which I like and feel are worth showing to you so I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog.
