Common Personal Styling Misconceptions
Hello everyone! In today’s blog, I’m going to finally clear up a few common misconceptions about Personal Styling for you. All Personal Stylists work in different ways of course. But I’m going to tell you a bit more about how I operate and who for.
“Only celebrities and wealthy people go to Personal Stylists”
Celebrities employ Personal Stylists for red carpets and such this is true. And yes, wealthy people book us but that is not the only type of client we are open to. I welcome clients from all walks of life and tailor my services to their needs.
You don’t have to be Meryl Streep to book a Personal Shopping trip with me. I will take you to whichever shopping destination is the best fit for you. The high street is a fantastic place for fashion and I love finding people affordable pieces that are just as flattering and valuable.
“Personal Styling is only for women who look a certain way”
I style everyone! Men and women of all ages, shapes and sizes. You’re all welcome here and I have experience styling you don’t worry.
Before even getting into Personal Styling, I have helping my friends and family with their wardrobes. I have also styled many people from babies to grandparents in commercials — and they all looked fabulous! Plus, I’m petite myself which is not easy to dress but I make it work 😉
“I’m going to be forced to buy loads of things”
This is not true. With me, you’re not going to get forced into Gucci and made to feel like you have to buy everything you’ve tried on in the fitting room. I offer gentle guidance and tips with an encouraging atmosphere — no pressure!
The experiences we have will be tailored to your price point and I aim to show you what you’re looking for plus a little extra. This does not mean you need to buy it all. The main takeaway from our trip should be learning how best to dress yourself. You may come away with just a handful of pieces but you should also be armed with the knowledge of how to shop better for yourself in the future.
“You’re going to put your taste on me”
Growing up watching makeover shows, this was one of my biggest bug bears. I was always so angry when the stylists didn’t take the client’s taste or lifestyle into account when dressing them.
My aim is to make you feel like the best version of yourself. I do this by getting to know you and finding things that I believe suit you and reflect your personality. Of course, I will introduce you to some new brands and styles. But they will be chosen with you in mind in hopes that you feel great in them. You won’t be forced into a look you don’t connect with just because I think it’s cool or it’s the big trend right now.
“You just take people shopping”
I do so much more than that. Before we even get to the shopping I help you lay the foundations of your personal style.
On a Colour & Body Consultancy with me, I help you find which seasonal palette makes your skin look the best and which shapes suit your body type. I offer a Wardrobe Edit in which I take a holistic view of your wardrobe and help you make outfits with the clothes you already own. We see if we can make the tricky pieces work and identify what’s missing from there. This can be held online if that’s better for you. The Personal Shopping can even go online!
My Colour Consultancies make fantastic group events too. Perfect for a birthday party or team-building experience.
I hope this has answered any misunderstandings and dissolved the stigma that might be floating around from the Personal Stylists on the television. Any more questions or worries you may have, I am more than happy to have a chat with you about! Just get in touch and let’s straighten them right out 🙂
A discovery call with me is completely FREE. Get in touch and let’s tailor the perfect Personal Styling session to YOU!
