Top Winter Tips

So, it’s getting dark outside, you’ve put on the kettle, lit a candle and are sitting on the sofa in your warm pyjamas. Feeling comfy? But also feeling confused because it’s been a whole year since Winter, and last year you stayed at home making banana bread, only saw people from the waist up and now suddenly you have to socialise! Like, full body socialise and you don’t know how to dress anymore?

Don’t sweat! I’m here to help you.

First, what’s in the wardrobe?

It’s always good before frantically shopping to check what you already have in your wardrobe. Go through your jumpers and make some outfits in front of the mirror. Put on some nice music, maybe make a nice herbal tea and have some me time.

And I really think it’s important to go all out and try them with shoes, socks, tights, accessories. It might feel like a bit of effort but it’s so key to see the whole look — and besides, that way you’ll be fully prepared for when you do go out. Even take pictures if that helps you! Personally I love me a mirror selfie.

Dresses in winter!

Winter doesn’t mean you can’t still wear some of those summer pieces that you love.

Dresses, for example, can be extremely versatile. A great dress can take a jumper or cardigan over the top and some dresses can be worn with tops, shirts and jumpers underneath. Be experimental! I like a short sleeved dress over a polo neck — very chic.

Creative layering

Layering is your friend and something that can help make your style unique to you. Different fabric combinations can look great together, as well as different lengths, textures, patterns.

Winter doesn’t have to mean big, chunky, ugly coats. (All the more so if you’re petite!) Jackets are great layering pieces. Wear one over another and not only will that keep you doubly warm, it gives you a perfect chance to show off contrasting fabrics and better express your tastes.

My go-to is often a denim jacket to layer with, worn with a thicker jacket for that street style vibe. Leather jackets are a versatile idea too!

You can use layers below the waist too. While tights or thermals are obvious choices for keeping your legs toasty, you can try a dress or even skirt over trousers for a retro 2000s look which is very in these days!

In a year, our tastes can change and our body can change. It’s ok not to love the things you bought last year — you were a different person then. With a Wardrobe Edit session, we can go through some pieces that you haven’t seen in a while and see if they still work for you, and if there’s anything else you can add to your wardrobe. It might be that we can edit something, wear it in a different way, give it to charity or sell it online.
