My Spring Summer 25 Fashion Month Trends

Spring Summer Fashion Month has just ended so I’m sharing the trends I’ve identified so you can get excited for next Summer or try them now!

I haven’t been sponsored to write this. Shout out to Vogue for providing the catwalk pictures and some of the trend ideas!

This blog is also a Youtube video! If you’d like to see me explain these with extra pics and expressive hands, you can watch that here 🙂

Lots of trends from the Autumn Winter 24/25 runways looks like they’ll carry on into Spring Summer 25, horay!

One of the big ones still very much gracing the catwalks is that hot tomato red. So Spring’s can relax, their shade is still red-ily available.

Like I’ve said before, you can do a whole red outfit or just add some pops of it here and there in pieces too. It’s perfect for memorability and adding a dash of hot passion to your outfits.

And don’t worry if you’re not a Spring, there was maroon in collections too. Summer and Winter skins don’t worry, you can keep hold of your deep reds.

Bright blue hues

A new shade entering the runways was bright and electric blue. The perfect compliment to the hopefully warm weather next year. This hue should help you feel calm and make you fancy a trip to the seaside.

We saw this blue with warm undertones from the Spring palette and a more electric shade from Spring and Winter’s palettes. If you love these blues and they don’t love you, maybe just purchase an accessory or two.

Plenty of pastels

Pastels were a plenty, which isn’t a surprise for Summer and good if you are a Summer or a Winter palette.

Light buttermilk yellow, blushy baby pink, soft baby blue and a fresh zingy mint. Many designers chose feminine styles to match but they were also in suiting, sexier pieces and sporty styles, so whatever your style may be, there will be a pastel for you next Summer.

Grandma florals

Florals for Spring, groundbreaking right? This season we saw a lot of these faded, pastel chintzy florals mixed and matched, clashed, grunged up, sheer and manipulated.

This is a great summery fabric choice which I think you can have a lot of fun with. It can be super sweet or you can experiment with contrasting fabrics and pieces like a check or even a leather-look.

The trick to finding your best floral is small person – small floral, bigger person – bigger floral. So petite friends find your ditsy and taller friends go bold!

Babydoll

Baby-like short dresses with the babydoll high flare empire shape were in quite a few collections. This style was popular in the 90’s. I personally love it, it’s great if like a dress to glide over your tummy.

As well as this particular silhouette, there were child-like mini shapeless shift dresses, puffy pantaloons, rompers and infantile accessories also.

Of course just like the floral, you can do baby style and still rock it up. Perhaps you love the shapes but prefer a grungy or subtle fabric. Maybe your shoes and accessories tone it down. You can still be cute and chic!

Photo-print and graphic tees

There was an experimental and arty feeling that touched many of these collections. Some chose to be obvious with that painting inspiration, for others it was larger than life wild sculptural shapes. For quite a few it was photo print onto the fabric.

This was printed onto many different styles, some going for realistic scenes, landscapes and objects. Whilst others were more abstract digital prints.

Also translating into graphic t-shirts which gives that everyday feel to fashion. A great way of effortlessly expressing personality and breaking the ice in a social situation.

Tank tops

Speaking of tees, the tank top was spotted by Vogue’s eagle eyes on a lot of runways and to me this is no surprise.

It’s a Summer staple and 2025’s Summer is seeing a lot of actual warm weather wardrobe staples refreshed and modernised or paired with unlikely pieces. Like a tank top with a sparkly skirt.

Shouldn’t be a big deal but typically Spring Summer runways are filled with inappropriate pieces like scarves and fur coats for this time of year. So seeing a vest like this that feels Summery is welcome.

As I’ll get into later, there was a lot of underwear inspiration and a piece like this fits into that vibe easily. Though of course, perfectly acceptable to wear out. There was a lot of see-through and these tanks haven’t been spared from that. Though my pics for you are PG.

Double denim

Double denim is a debatable yet classic style that gained runway popularity for SS25.

I saw this in the standard denim blue as a regular matching set but there were some darker navys, greys and blacks and even some 80’s acid wash.

Another trend that feels like a Summer trope – and we love to see it. It’s also very doable all year long. Whenever you’re reading this blog you can get your double denim on!

1980’s

Speaking of 80’s, it may be that I just came off researching for a massive eras video or that I’m drawing my 80’s calendar but I definitely noticed some 80’s references.

Big oversized suits and jackets, boxy, large and flowy. This was in shirts and trousers too and many finished off their power dressing with full suit and tie look.

Polka dots were quite an 80’s pattern which we saw in that standard monochrome. Like the floral, remember to pick your dot size height accordingly. Little dots will get lost on a large frame and big spots will overpower a little body.

Rara (the layering of fabric) is another 80’s style we saw quite a bit of too. It was in dresses and skirts and is a nice way to add volume to an area of your body. Small bust – stick on some rara. Little hips – add some rara frill.

1920’s

This one was the most surprising trend to make a runway comeback. It was taken in a modern way of course with flapper dresses in see-through fabrics and grunged up in an every day way. No party costumes, pure 20’s vibes.

To go with this there were many art deco embellishments and fringing details. Perfect for some flapper glamour.

Fringing

This was huge! Fringing first poked its head in last year’s Winter 24/25 runways. Meaning it can already start coming to the high street soon and will continue on next Summer as well.

There were layers of tiny thin fringes creating texture, long cut up strands of fringe to reveal skin and move when walking. Many glittery, some fluffy, rafia (Summery texture), thick strands. Details of it in a few places or just a whole dress of the stuff.

It really was everywhere and I wouldn’t be surprised to see skirts and dresses in it or with it as a hem – you heard it here first.

Fishnet

Another texture that feels Summery and reveals skin. Everyone wanted to show that skin in different ways and this is a great way to do that.

It went with a lot of the Summery styled collections that were actually referencing the beach and sea life. As well as just being used to create texture in a layering context. Quite a few of the fishnet went into fringed hems too.

Sheer fantasy

Speaking of layering and showing skin, this was another key trend. There’s many pictures I can’t show but a lot of the sheer see-through was used over another fabric to create double colours and textures.

Many lacey and embellished with interesting 3D designs and lots showed different pieces under like underwear and little shorts. It’s a really fun fabric to get creative and experiment with.

Lingerie and underwear

Seems to always be a big fashion thing. And most designers found ways to show it off that doesn’t even feel that daring any more. Maybe I’ve been following fashion weeks too long…

Many outfits let pieces peek through or just plain be there. Like ‘here’s a regular bra and a big dressy skirt’. Colours tended to be classic black and white with and without lace. There were also lacey silky camisoles. Who doesn’t love a slip dress these days?

Speaking of underwear as outerwear, there were a lot of little bloomers, high and low waisted pants, menswear style boxers and pyjama-like bottoms. These were in classic pastel colours, many with stripes.

Grunged up and worn with contrasting pieces and again not looking out of place. The boxer and bloomer were on trend this Summer just gone and are clearly sticking around. Keep them clean for 2025!

Stripes of all varieties

The tickly thin pin-stripe is a suiting staple. We saw this on many suits as and shirts in their typical colours. Your classic navy, brown, black, white, grey were all there. The shirts in those pastels you come to expect also.

As well as this the classic nautical stripe and thick rugby stripe were gracing the runways. A real Summer classic (not complaining!).

A lot of brands were looking to their heritage and the suit and shirt were great ways of doing that. Really showing us their core, where they come from and where they are going through suits and shirts and classic tailoring.

Pleats please

Pleats, thick and thin were featured in quite a few collections. Like a classic suit, pleats feel very timeless and retro. We associate them with 50’s glamour as well as preppy school uniforms.

What made a lot of this thin knife pleats feel more today was how they were draped and experimented in with, you guessed it, sheer chiffon. They flowed and were tucked under, layered and draped across the body. It wasn’t all ‘The New Look’ Dior skirt…though you can’t go wrong with a pleated midi and of course they were present.

Always blowing bubbles

Big voluminous shapes were plentiful for 2025 as we know now. The tucked under bubble shape (another 80s thing), was something I noticed across many collections. You’ll definitely be seeing bubbles in the shops next year.

Cute bubble up and down the body, tight and small to large and flowy. Another arty way to create texture and movement through fabric.

Vogue are calling this trend ‘on cloud nine’ as many of these bubbles were white and or in a fluffy puffy cloud like shape. I don’t disagree, I think the looseness and randomness of the tuck gives it that natural cloud-like feeling. Though there were many colours and patterns as well as white!

Hips for days
Big Skirts

Like I said, there was a lot of volume and shape in collections and this large dramatic, sometimes fairytale Georgian princess, other times a 50’s fashion sketch brought to life.

Hoop skirts and historic structuring gave wide hips and I say history but it’s modern and arty and interesting every time –  just borrowing inspiration from the past and taking it to today.

So if you feel like you’re a little lacking on your bottom half, you’ll be covered next year. Or if you just fancy some fantasy. It’s always nice to dress up and feel beautiful and sometimes that requires a large skirt to hold as you run down the stairs.

Knot front skirts/dresses

There was tons of drapery in collections and many skirts and dresses were being gathered into knots at the front and sides.

This to me feels quite Summery like a sarong but this was never directly a sarong. It also has the feeling of being too hot, taking your jacket off and wrapping it around your waist. And we love evoking the feeling of a hot day. Now I fancy an ice cream…

Capes…for Summer

I saw in an article that capes were still a thing…a carry over from the Autumn collections. Of course this lends itself to scarves better but the Summer saw sheer and draped evening capes.

So if you want to get your Superhero on for those cool Summer nights, you can pick up a thin cape or have them already sewn into your dresses.

Gothic romance

This is another Vogue spot, they are calling it ‘Dark Romance’. I thought this one was a bit of a push but there was plenty of black in collections (and there always is). But, a lot of that black was sheer, lacey and leathery which are gothic staples. So they do have a point there.

Some gothic came from designers you’d expect this from like Rodarte, Bora Aksu Alexander McQueen and Ann Demeulemeester all embracing their brand’s aesthetic. Many brands were embracing their heritage and signature style. For some it’s suits, for others it’s an Edwardian ruffle.

Plaid/check/tartan

On the alternative fashion side, we saw plaid, check, tartans plaid with (like played that’s the pun). Some of them were that country living grandma washed out check, others more grunge.

This fabric is a fav of mine. Interesting because even though it’s so classic it can fit into many genres. Rock or preppy, dressed up and down and the collections did show it in many lights. Clashed, traditional, experimented with, draped and I was here for it.

Pretty parkas

Quite a few jackets chosen were sporty and contrasting to feminine pieces they were paired with. The parka and windbreaker sport jacket popped up plenty. Oversized and dare I say a little 80’s?

This jacket choice seems to me like an Oasis reference which I don’t know how it made to the runways so soon after the reunion announcement.

Big pop culture moments like this always trickle into fashion. Already we’re seeing people getting the haircut and recreating Oasis’ style so the parka hitting the runways shouldn’t be a shock.

This is everything I have been saving this past month! I’ve tried to cover pieces from most of the collections many of which I like and feel are worth showing to you so I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog.

I hope you have a flavour of what’s in store next year. You can always get a jump on any of this if you like elements of it and I really do think many of these trends are available whenever you may be reading this!
