Models backstage at Rixo LFW SS22

Fashion Week has always been an exciting time for me. I love seeing collections from the big name designers as well as new emerging talents and finding out what the trends are for the upcoming season.

There are two fashion weeks, one in February and one in September held in New York, London, Paris and Milan. It’s where we see ‘Ready to Wear’ collections for the season ahead. For example, the shows this September are showcasing styles for Spring/Summer 2022! Fashion always plays ahead of the game.

As a fashion lover (and indeed religious follower of the catwalks!) I always love an opportunity to be amongst the action at these events. This year, I was backstage with Rixo helping to dress the models for their London show. Rixo boasts an array of fun and unique prints with a vintage-inspired twist in all the brightest colours you can imagine—perfect for my Spring colour palette—and their backdrop for the occasion was fittingly the tropical conservatory at the Barbican.

My role was to dress two beautiful ladies, Nandi and Hanna. Nandi had just flown in from New York for her very first London show which she was very excited about, while Hanna was so calm and full of smiles all day—they were both such a pleasure to have worked with. We all kept ourselves occupied throughout the day, which notoriously consists of quite a lot of sitting around and waiting, so I think we really welcomed each other’s company.

Nandi wore a beautiful lime green slip dress that complemented her skin tone and figure perfectly, offset by a blue cropped shirt that had a vintage vibe in keeping with Rixo’s style, which I loved. We had fun accessorising her too with a ripped up scarf around her neck, layered with two necklaces for extra personality.

Hanna was dressed in pastel two-piece shirt and slip skirt with psychedelic print, which looked great on her skin. I thought the midi skirt highlighted her tall and slim figure really well. Entering the conservatory and seeing them with all the other models was like seeing an exhibition of goddesses, swaying to the mariachi band and perched on ledges around the looming plants.

This was no regular catwalk and I loved how unique and interactive it was! It was nice that the models weren’t just walking in a straight line with stern faces for a change, but to have them dancing and smiling away with the guests, which felt very Rixo! And full credit to the brand for choosing such a diverse and inclusive cast with models of different ages, races and body shapes. It was such a vibrant atmosphere to be a part of.
